Illinois Congressman Brad Schneider speaks about the Safe Freight Act, a federal bill he co-sponsored that would ensure a minimum of two Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) certified crew members to operate a single freight train.
Senate Bill 24 passed in Illinois, which simply codified this already long-standing industry practice. Yet, the industry has proposed that it will fight this safety measure at the federal level based on preemption. Federal preemption is the invalidation of a U.S. state law that conflicts with federal law.
Therefore, please contact your congressional legislators and ask them to support and pass the Safe Freight Act. If your elected officials choose not to support this legislation, consider their campaign contributions and vote them out of office.
